I’ve always seen vacations as a one-way ticket for couples to have some well deserved fun sex. An easy way to shake off domestic routines and allow the more relaxed side of our personality to come out.

In fact, countless couples have shared their out-of-their-usual-comfort-zone sexual escapes when they were in a foreign city/ resort/ beach.

Imagine my disappointment when just the opposite happened. I just got back from a skiing vacation with my husband’s family—a large, lovely and fun group of people. But there was zippo sex and now zippo desire to have sex for…quite some time.

Although I still believe vacation sex can be fantastic sex, after this vacation I must add a few caveats to this theory:
1.    Child must not be teething.
2.    Child cannot sleep with us.
3.    We cannot stay in a relative’s house.
4.    Child cannot have the run of a relative’s house which hasn’t been child-proofed.
5.    I must not be left at home with child in non-child proofed house, to clean up after everyone, make lunch and supper—while everyone else goes skiing.
6.    Must find babysitters for two dogs and not bring with.
7.    I must have at least a nano-second of down time and relaxation.

Thank God there was absolutely no way to slot in time to have sex. My husband didn’t even bother initiating as I was walking around with a “you get to ski and I have to play Cinder-trina” resentful and sulky disposition.

This isn’t at all how I envisioned glorious, wonderful, soul reconnecting sex to happen. At all. Then again, now that I think about it, this really wasn’t much of a vacation.

Although I believe we can have sex-filled family vacations, after this experience I realize that parent-only weekend getaways are now a must. At least once a year.

I see in my very near future a weekend getaway pour deux that’s going to be all about me and my sexual needs.
