  1. One Mother’s Day a last minute barbecue was planned at my brother-in-laws home. When my mother-in-law called me up to invite my son and me as chaperone I told her that I could not make it. I went on to explain that I had to visit my grandmother at the Hospice Center. And after the Hospice Center I had to come home and take care of my dog that was just a few weeks shy of being put to sleep. If I was told more than an hour and a half before the event perhaps I could made prior arrangements.

“Can’t you visit your grandmother another time?”, she asked.

“This is her last mother’s day and I really want to be there today. Besides, I can’t be away from the dog too long because she can’t get around on her own.”
