Sounds ridiculously familiar!

Last October I did the exact same whirlwind tour (made it out alive with only a few small purchases...Dylan's Candy Bar stuff, a snowglobe of 'The Big Apple', etc.) with my 8 year old. Who, btw, has decided that she wants to go to NYU when she's of age.

Like you, I made a promise - "sure, we can make this an annual girls trip". Which is probably a good thing, because by the time we made it all the way back down to the ground from the top of the Empire State Bldg., the snowglobe had cracked and all the cute little insides had leaked out...

Guess it's time to start saving now, or as you said, "re-mortgage the house".

But you're right: it's tough.

I'm sure you've got it right!
You know that old saying, "you never know what goes on behind closed doors."

Even if they are the perfect (and yeah, they do kinda look the part, now don't they?) family, we can all insist on perpetually residing in Fantasyland.

I've got an 'E' ticket. Care to join me?

Julie, I am right there with you! We've had some close calls with our two-year-old (involving window cords, which I always attach out of reach, but which had fallen down). It's terrifying, and if you let yourself you can completely freak out over all the potential dangers.

I think communication with kids is key, as well as preparation. I'm so glad your little blondie is OK -- thank goodness mine is, too! :)

we had a very similar incident where my daughter was choking on her own vomit in her bedroom, after a febrile seizure. I still replay all the "what-ifs" in my head... what if we hadn't turned on the monitor RIGHT then, what if I had been watching tv and not heard, what if I had ignored the sounds??

You'll carry all that for a while, but the important thing is you DID go in and remedy the situation. And thank god for that!

Just when you think SIDS is no longer a worry... there's ALWAYS something!
