Don’t mess with my gas fill-up time

I have this little ritual that I really enjoy and that really helps me feel organized and on top of things with my car. Filling up my gas tank takes about 10  or so minutes, sometimes a bit more if the pump is slow or I am way down on empty.

I really look forward to these 10 minutes, about twice per week. I take the time to click on the pump so it automatically pumps and stays in my car, and meanwhile I clean out all of the papers and junk in my car.

I throw out all of the trash right there at the gas station, organize receipts, gather all hair clips and scrunchies for return to my house and sometimes even go through that day’s mail and toss 90% on the spot.

I leave the gas station feeling pretty good about the world — my tank is full, li life is organized for that one moment and my car as clean as it’s going to get.

Small talk? Not so much.

Let me start this way:

I am a nice person. I am one of those people who is very nice and polite to strangers. I also treat my friends and family well. And I have a lot of friends.

I know that I can talk at least a little bit about a lot of different topics. I enjoy a good conversation as good as the next person.

But I have no patience for small talk. You know, the empty conversations about the weather or the neighbor that way too many people resort to when they:

1) have nothing better to do, or

2) get too nervous about having silence and feel they need to fill up that space with something or

3) are as stuck as you are - whether on line somewhere, in the corner at a boring party or in some situation that doesn’t look to be changing or ending any time soon

To my dear right thumb: Thank you & I’m sorry

This past Sunday, my WorkingMomLifeline.com partner-in-crime Deb and I enjoyed a lovely day aboard the Celebrity Solstice cruise ship (a great perk of living in South Florida — you can easily drive to the port, park and hop aboard the ship).

The Coral Springs, Florida, chapter of the American BusinessWomen’s Association  (ABWA) graciously invited us to address the 70 members and guests in a keynote speech entitled: What Every Business Woman Must Know Before Starting A New Business (Or, All The Lessons We Learned The Hard Way & Hope You Avoid…At All Costs)

(By the way, we will add a few pics and some video this week so you can see us in action.)

WorkingMomLifeline.com is now a regular blog contributor on PINK Magazine.

We will now be sharing our insight and laughter with the Pink Magazine community.

Take a look at our first post below: Is This Really My Life?

Have you ever wondered who stole your wildly cool, sane and laugh-a-minute life and left you with the crazy, unbalanced and decidedly not-so-cool life of a frazzled working mom in its place?

Yea, we have too.

Pretty much every day, actually.

But….the good news is we (and by we, we mean all of us working moms) are pretty good at getting the real lesson out of even the most unproductive, disorganized, previously-unimaginable, “Calgon-take-me-away” kind of days.

Here are some recent examples of some “Is-This-Really-My-Life” moments we’ve had and the accompanying lesson we will always carry from said moments:

1. Just because you consider yourself accomplished, talented and rational, doesn’t mean you are, should be or have to be the world’s most flawless hostess.

Our first (of many!) PR coups

We were interviewed yesterday (10/14) am on the JimandJadeShow, a local (Miami) CBS morning show.

We think we did pretty well for media novices — our super savvy-ness in other areas carried us through.

Check it out and let us know your thoughts. (Did you like the “Walmart for working moms reference?? We did!)

Click here for the video. Link will take you to the station’s website.
