A simple little poke and press does the trick…
This morning a friend sent me one of those you’ve-got-to-be-kidding-me emails. Before I tell you about it, let me set the stage a bit.
Those who know me well, know that I’m no Suzy Homemaker…by any stretch of the imagination. I certainly know my way around a kitchen and consider myself adept at putting meals together, but putting meals together doesn’t actually have to mean rolling up your sleeves and getting slimy surf or turf parts on your hands! Truthfully, that part kind of grosses me out.
Veggies and dessert, which to me are the book-ends of a meal, now those I’ve got covered. I happily chop, dice, slice and saute veggies. Cut-up fruit is a staple too. I’m a whiz at adding high calorie add-ins to slice n bake cookies. Writing and playing with frosting? Love to. See what I mean? No Suzy Homemaker. Julia Child and Rachel Ray would shake their heads at my unabashed lack of desire to cook.
So, while I’m not a fan of touching raw meat, fowl or fish, I still rely on aluminum foil and plastic wrap. We own an impressive assortment of Tupperware, but still, foil and wrap are a part of the daily leftover process. I don’t know about you, but typically while I’m trying to pull off just the right amount of foil, one side of the roll kind of pops out of the box, resulting in a large tear down the middle of the piece that I need. Same thing with the plastic wrap, as I stand at the counter wrestling, coaxing and wrangling a piece of unmangled (akin to nailing jello down) Saran wrap, often times the roll goes flying (seriously) out of the box and lands on the floor.
Here’s where the Aha email comes in - Check this out! All these years of fumbling, all the unnecessary cursing at mangled foil and wrap. This stuff (go ahead, run to your kitchen and check for yourself) comes with “Push Here” locks and tabs to keep the roll in place. Genius! Who knew? Happy leftover wrapping.
Do me a favor, just don’t tell my kids that I’m not a great cook or experienced sous chef - I’ve still got them fooled. For now.
