Earthquake? No, it’s just my husband.

Snoring.  Snoring (not mine) just might very well be the bain of my existence.  I know I’m not alone here, many people, let’s call a spade a spade, many women spend their nights tossing and turning while contemplating how many years we’d be put away for, if we actually did smother our spouses with their pillows.

During the day, my husband is a good guy, but all bets are off when he plops himself into a horizontal position.  That’s when annoying, vibrating uvulaman (yes, I made that up, it’s not a SAT word that you never learned) makes his nightly debut.

Things start off innocently enough. “Goodnight honey, love you” goes the beginning of the downward spiral.  A kiss or two, and he’s out for the night.  In the spirit of full-disclosure, I should mention that I’m a very light sleeper and I usually don’t fall asleep until close to midnight.  My knight in shining armor can fall asleep at any time and any place, no problem.

Am I the only one who gets annoyed on Picture Day?

It’s inevitable.

It used to come around, like clockwork, once a year. Then, in more recent years, it’s been a twice-yearly thing in my kids’ elementary school.

I’m talking about Picture Day.

For the first few years, I was always so excited and ordered away. The packages were so inviting and exciting (with all sorts of non-picture new choices every year!), I simply could never choose just one. And because my kids are close in age (two grades apart), what I bought/buy for one I always bought/buy for the other.

Now, I don’t know about you, but once I distributed the pictures to various family members (grandparents get the biggest ones, usually the 1 8×10 we were lucky enough to get in the package, then aunts and uncles usually get the 5×7 or 3×5s, and of course, wallets all around), I wasn’t quite sure what to do with the rest.

Sign ‘o’ the times

Yesterday, I went to the bank to put something in the safety deposit box I keep there. It was full so I had to take some stuff out to put in the new additions.

What was it full with? Negatives. Yes, negatives. You know those brown strip things that used to come with your developed file/pictures back in the day? At one time, negatives were among my most valuable (emotionally, obviously not financially — or maybe financially too?) possessions and took up about 75% of my small, long, narrow safety deposit box.

So, to add what I really wanted to add, I had to take out a few envelopes filled with negatives. I had no idea what to do with them, where in my too-full house I had room to put them or whether, in all honesty, I even needed more “stuff” — would I ever, ever actually do anything with these negatives?

Fun (not sex) and the City

How much sight-seeing and walking can be done in three days?  Alot!  So much that our feet felt like they were on fire when we limply crawled into bed each night.  Neither one of our girls had ever been to Manhattan, and both of them desperately (as in please, pretty please with sugar on top kind of begging) wanted to go.  Apparently, Nickelodeon, Disney and all other media geared to young girls, make it very clear that NYC is the place to be.  Truth be told, it is.

As far as the eye could see..

As far as the eye could see..

My eight year old says she’d like us to move there, now.  I explained how our lovely home that we live in, would buy the equivalent of a small walk-in closet in the city.  Still not willing to give up on city life, she asked if she could go to college there.  Sure, my only question is whether she’d mind if I come too?  Sign me up, any major…I’m in.

Our first (of many!) PR coups

We were interviewed yesterday (10/14) am on the JimandJadeShow, a local (Miami) CBS morning show.

We think we did pretty well for media novices — our super savvy-ness in other areas carried us through.

Check it out and let us know your thoughts. (Did you like the “Walmart for working moms reference?? We did!)

Click here for the video. Link will take you to the station’s website.
