I started off my morning with the usual run-around like I always do. Gotta get everyone and everything (kids, dog, work) ready for the day, like most of you do too. I figure whipping myself into a frenzy at 6:30am must be worth a few calories spent, right? So, I’m off to a good start.
Tonight is ‘Trick or Treat’, which for me directly translates into how many “Fun Size” chocolates can I ingest before getting around our block. Unfortunately, we don’t only go around our block, but venture to some side streets too…up, down, up, down….lots of walking….lots of time holding Halloween candy. You get the picture?
So, I’m at the gym doing Halloween math - how many minutes (I did a lame attempt at a jog for 25 min.) on the treadmill will it take to negate scarfing down (and licking melted chocolate off of fingers too) three little chocolate yummies? Throw in one misc. Twizzler and an extra Tootsie Roll too. Hmmm, better hop on the stairmaster after the treadmill. Does 15 minutes of the boring stairmaster help?

Well, with all the time and energy and subconscious angst I have devoted to not being like my own mom, I think I have created a monster (myself) who sucks in her own new and unique way.
Sometimes, on a particularly bad-feeling-sorry-for-myself day, I start to list all the ways I don’t ”fit the bill” as a mom:
- I don’t bake
- I kind of suck at cooking, actually I don’t suck, I just don’t enjoy it anymore…at all
- I’m apparently the only mom at work while the rest are making Xerox copies or monitoring the cafeteria in the kids’ school
- I have no artistic ability and am not a go-to person for any kind of craft, sewing or home DIY project
- I am not that good at policing my mouth when someone cuts me off on the road or annoys me in some other way (with kids in the backseat)

MONEY SAVING TIPS FOR WORKING MOMS
(Rooting under car seats for loose change doesn’t count)
1. Limit drive-thru meals – Your families’ arteries and bank account will thank you. Savings = $50-$80 per month.
2. Institute a weekly family game night - instead of heading out on the town
you can save $100 on dinner and a sitter, as well as get the added bonus of bonding with your kids. Maybe you’ll even find out why your teenage daughter is sporting a fresh tattoo with the words ‘Wild Child’…yikes!
Savings = $100-$400 per month.
3. Overpriced coffee drinks – these drinks eat away at more than your stomach lining, your pocketbook takes a hit too. $4.00+ per day adds up.
Savings = $80 per month.

It’s an interesting day here in South Florida.
First, I am working from my home office. Usually, I don’t work from home, though in the past I did for years.
Second, I am sitting outside by the pool , overlooking the lake, and working.
I never, ever work outside. Usually so hot and humid where I live that being outside is not a pleasant thing. And those of you who know me personally know I am not exactly what you would call an “outdoors person.”
But once a year, usually in the third week of October, something strange and incredible happens overnight: A cold front comes in and brings our temperature down to about 65-70 with low humidity.
This may sound weird, but this is the most glorious time of the year for us here in South Florida. We LIVE for our winter-time! And now it is here and I have chosen to take advantage of it and work outside.

I love the dog park. I’m pretty sure Lucy (our Goldendoodle) feels the same way. I can tell because whenever we get anywhere near the entrance to the park, she starts pacing back and forth in the backseat of the car. Now, if she was a little dog, and by little I mean one that doesn’t take up half of a king-size bed, then the frenzied dance in the backseat wouldn’t be a big deal. Her long, furry tail somehow manages to get everywhere, including my face, which is in the front seat behind the steering wheel!
We arrrive and one of (dog) us fervently pulls forward on the leash, while the other (human) one desperately tries to pull back and not fall flat on her face. Guess who usually wins? We get inside the fenced area for “Large Dogs”, I untether the crazed ball of fur and it’s an immediate doggy free-for-all.
